# GPT Image

> OpenAI's image models, for detailed edits with many references, text in images and transparent backgrounds.

GPT Image, from OpenAI, makes and edits images, follows long prompts closely,
and renders text well. Add reference images and it edits or combines them.

GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and Flare have the same settings and prices.

## What you can give it

* **A prompt** of up to 32,000 characters in Generate, or 20,000 through the
  API.
* **References**: up to 16 images (PNG, JPEG or WebP, under 50 MB and up to
  40 megapixels each).
* **A mask** to edit only part of the first image. See

## Output settings

| Resolution | 1K, 2K or 4K once you choose an aspect ratio, or **Custom…** for an exact size. |
| Quality | See the table above. Higher quality costs more. |
| Format | GPT Image 2.5: PNG, JPEG or WebP. |
| Background | GPT Image 2.5: **Auto**, **Opaque** or **Transparent**. Transparent needs PNG or WebP. |
| Quantity | 1 to 4 images. |

## Cost

GPT Image is priced by how much the model reads and makes, so higher quality,
bigger images and more references cost more. The charge follows what the model
actually uses, so it can differ slightly from the estimate. One image at Auto
quality and size is estimated at:

At the same quality, GPT Image 2 costs more than GPT Image 2.5. Prices are as
