# Make an image

> Pick an image model, write a prompt and generate.

Generate opens on the image generator. If you're on another one, choose
**Image** in Generate's sidebar.

## Choose a model

Choose a model from the **Model** menu. Some models list what they can do
beside their name, such as **Generate** or **Edit**.

![The Model menu open in the image generator, listing image models such as GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, FLUX.3 Image and Nano Banana Pro.](https://mintcdn.com/zero-gen/m4I7fPs1rAXZSMjU/images/get-started/model-picker.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=m4I7fPs1rAXZSMjU\&q=85\&s=ff9ab06b6461a4f40735c9e097d9b982)

## Write a prompt

Describe the image in **Prompt**. To steer it with your own images, add
[references](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/frames-and-references.md) and point to them with
[@ tags](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/prompts.md).

ZeroGen names the image after your prompt unless you type a **Name** or use a
[naming preset](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/naming-presets.md).

## Set the output

The **Output** settings depend on the model. **Auto** leaves a setting to the
model's default.

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Aspect ratio | The image's shape: square, landscape or portrait, such as 1:1, 16:9 or 9:16. The choices depend on the model. |
| Resolution | 0.5K, 1K, 2K or 4K, each with its size in pixels. Choose an aspect ratio first. Some models also offer **Custom…** for an exact size. |
| Quality | The model's quality levels. For example, GPT Image 2.5 offers Low, Medium, High, Extra High and Max. |
| Format | PNG, JPEG or WebP, on models that offer a choice. |
| Background | Auto, Opaque or Transparent, on models that offer it. Transparent needs PNG or WebP. |
| Quantity | Up to 4 images from one prompt, on models that can make several at once. |

## Check the cost and generate

**Cost**, under the **Generate** button, estimates the price of exactly what
you've set up. When you choose **Generate**, ZeroGen holds that estimate from
your organization's balance. You're charged for what the model actually used,
which can differ from the estimate. See
[Credits and billing](https://docs.zerogen.com/foundations/credits-and-billing.md).

Your image appears in **Generations** when it's ready.

## Review and reuse an image

Select an image in **Generations** to open it in the viewer.

* **Reuse parameters** loads the image's settings back into the generator.
See [Reuse and trace a result](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/reuse-and-trace.md).
* **Use as…** adds the image to your next generation. See
[Use as a reference or frame](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/frames-and-references.md#use-as-a-reference-or-frame).
* **Show reference graph** shows what the image was made from and what's been
made from it. See [Reuse and trace an asset](https://docs.zerogen.com/library/reuse-and-trace.md#open-the-reference-graph).
