# Projects

> Where work lives, with its own Library, folders, settings and budget.

A **project** holds one body of work, such as a film, a campaign or a client.
Every organization starts with a **Default Project**, and you can add more.

Each project has its own:

* **Library**: its uploads, generations and derived copies. An asset belongs
  to exactly one project.
* **Folders** for organizing that Library.
* **Generations** history in Generate.
* **Naming presets** for file names. See [Naming presets](https://docs.zerogen.com/generate/naming-presets.md).
* **Settings** and **monthly budget**.

Projects organize work. They don't control who can see it: everyone in your
organization can see and work in every project. Labels and your balance are
shared across all projects.

## Switch or create a project

The project menu in the top bar shows the project you're in. Open it to
switch to another project, or choose **New project…** to create one. Anyone
can create a project. Projects can't be archived or deleted.

## Project settings

Open the project menu, choose **…** beside a project, then **Project
settings**. Everyone can see a project's settings, and Owners and Admins can
change them.

| Section | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **General** | The project's name, and its **Project slug**: the short name in its web address. |
| **Metadata files** | Whether downloads of generated assets include a JSON file describing how each was made. See [Download](https://docs.zerogen.com/library/download.md). |
| **Reference folders** | Which of a folder's assets come into a prompt when someone adds the folder with **#**: its favorites, or assets with labels you choose. See [Folders and labels](https://docs.zerogen.com/foundations/folders-and-labels.md#folders-in-prompts). |
| **Monthly budget** | A spending limit for the project each month. See [Spend limits and budgets](https://docs.zerogen.com/foundations/spend-limits.md#project-monthly-budget). |
